A Pink Gradient & Gold Flakes Manicure
It seems nearly everyone has caught on to the gold flakie nail polish craze, but who can blame us? I love gold, whether it’s yellow gold, rose gold or white gold (which by the way depending on the karat all contains the same amount of pure gold, there are just different alloys mixed in, for instance rose gold is mixed with copper to give its pinkish hue). Sephora by OPI came out with ‘It’s Real 18k Gold topcoat’ some time ago which contains small gold flakes which produce a speckled effect on the nail. That polish retails for $30.00 and you can purchase it here from Sephora’s website. Now, for the 2012 Skyfall Collection OPI introduced ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ which contains a sparse larger flakie on the nail. This polish still retails for $30.00 and while it hasn’t hit stores yet you can get it on eBay for the same or less than retail.
I decided to keep with my pink theme to help raise awareness for breast cancer by first creating a pink gradient manicure. This is probably one of the easiest and most visually pleasing effects you can give your nails. All you do is paint the colors on a make up sponge and lightly dab on your colors. Repeat until you’ve gotten your desired depth of color.
I used 2 coats of OPI ‘Panda-Monium Pink’ which was a bit watery and had some cuticle flooding on a few nails. I painted both OPI ‘Panda-Monium Pink’ and OPI ‘Dim Sum Plum’ on the sponge before dabbing it on my nails so the blend would be subtle and nearly flawless. I then added 1 coat of OPI ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ which has sparse 18k gold flakes suspended in a clear base. All of these polishes are available at ULTA and/or other online etailers. What do you guys think of this combo? Is it too much or just right? Until next time…
